Venus, Chatham Clinic Cat - In loving memory (1994? - 2014)
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of our clinic cat, Venus' passing. To those who knew her she was a sweet, loving, and sassy cat who spent 18 years at Capitol Illini Veterinary Services. She will be greatly missed by our clients and employees. We will miss your silly ways Venus.

Simba, Wabash Clinic Cat
Simba, who is our clinic cat at our Wabash location, joined our family in the summer of 2014. He was a rescue from a hoarding situation, although he came to us blind in both eyes he has adapted beautifully to the surroundings of his new home. Simba had a very difficult first part of his life but has found a special place in our clinic as well as our hearts. His favorite activities include playing with his toys and napping in the sun.
Betty, Human Resources Manager
Betty joined Capitol Illini in 1975 as a receptionist and veterinary assistant. She was later promoted to office manager in 1976. In April 2011 her role was changed to Human Resources Manager. Betty's family consists of her husband, their son and four dogs. Betty has a wide range of animal interests including working at her son's dog training school in her spare time. She has seen a number of positive changes at Capitol Illini during her term and looks forward to many more in the years to come.
Motivated by her love of animals, Pam has been with Capitol Illini since 1986. She is the bookkeeper for both clinic locations. Pam and her husband Don were married in 1973 and have two children and one granddaughter, Lilly. Pam has a chocolate Miniature Poodle named Isabella. Pam enjoys spending time with her family, movies, shopping, reading, camping and going to dirt car races with Don.
Gail, Office Manager and Inventory Manager
Gail joined the Capitol Illini team in the summer of 1992. She received the majority of her in-house training in Pennsylvania where she previously lived. Gail has over 30 years experience in the field of veterinary medicine. She was the head surgical technician from 1994-2009, enjoying all surgical procedures especially the orthopedic cases with Dr. Wright. Currently Gail is our Inventory Manager, taking pride in the precise management of the hospital’s extensive inventory. In April 2011, she took over the role of Office Manager , supervising the performance of our entire veterinary staff. Gail and her husband have 2 daughters, a Chihuahua mix Rosie, and a cat Mitchell.
Heather, Certified Veterinary Technician
Heather is a graduate from Parkland College Veterinary Technician Program. Prior to joining the team at Capitol Illini in May 2009, Heather spent almost five years working in the companion animal veterinary field and wildlife rehabilitation of difficult cats and dogs. In addition, she is starting a weight management program at our hospitals. Heather is highly motivated in helping pet owners better understand their pet’s medical, weight, and behavioral conditions. She shares her home with her fiancé Bruce and their four legged family. The family includes four cats: Carmella, Guido, Thomas and Cheshire; their dog, Cheyanne (always a loyal companion) and a little pet hedgehog named Athena. In her free time she enjoys hiking, camping, football and spending time with her family.
Michayla, Certified Veterinary Technician
Michayla, born and raised in Scott County, IL, always knew she wanted a carer helping animals. After high school she went to Champaign and worked for a veterinary hospital while attending Parkland College. She graduated from the Veterinary Technology program at Parkland in May, 2010, and then joined Capitol Illini in August 2010. She lives in Springfield with her husband Harry, daughter Aubriella, German Shephard dog named Trixie, and two Maltese; Meiko and Kiara.
Molly, Certified Veterinary Technician
Molly joined the Capitol Illini team in August, 2011 after moving from Star Prarie, a small town in Wisconsin. She is a 2010 veterinary technology graduate from Globe University in Woodbury, Minnesota. Prior to Capitol Illini, Molly gained experience with both large and small animals, through a private veterinary practice and at the University of Large Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Outside of work Molly enjoys spending time with her daughter, Allison, cooking, reading, watching dirt bike racing and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. She is also looking to adopt a dog in the future.
Sam, Certified Veterinary Technician
Sam joined the Capitol Illini team in 2010 as a kennel assistant and has worked her way up to a certified veterinary technician. She graduated from the Vet Tech institute at Hickey College in 2013. Sam has a Pit Bull mix named Luna that she adopted from Vet Tech School and two cats, Peaches and Wilby. During her free time, she enjoys hiking, biking, cheering for the Cubs, and spending time with her family and pets. Sam has wanted to work with animals her whole life and found her true passion here at Capitol Illini.
Andrew, Technician Manager
Andrew was hired as a Veterinary Assistant in 2001. He has been Dr. Wright's assistant since 2002 focusing on orthopedic medicine. Having grown up on a farm, Andrew had ample exposure to animals throughout his adolescence. True to his childhood roots, Andrew has five Appaloosa horses, Sassie, Flite, Joker, Soldier and Scout, one Bulldog, Junior and two cats, Louis and Little Tom Brady. Andrew is currently housing several feral "barn" cats. Naturally, he enjoys spending his free time riding his horses and hopes to one day operate his own horse farm, raising and showing Appaloosas.
Kacie, Veterinary Assistant
Kacie joined the Capitol Illini team in 2010 as a veterinary assistant. She shares her home with her mixed breed dog, Scarlet and her cat, Veda. During her free time she enjoys STL Blues hockey, spending time with her nieces, and keeping up with the livestock on the farm.
Kayla- Veterinary Assistant
Kayla was born and raised in Southern California and joined the Capitol Illini team in July of 2014 as a veterinary assistant. Since her childhood years, she has always had a love of animals and wanted a job where she could work closely with them. Kayla lives with her wonderful fiancée Adam, her two dogs - Reggie, a German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix, and Zoey – a Pit Bull Terrier. She also has two cats- Todd and Harley Quinn. In her free time she enjoys playing video games, reading, spending time with her family and physical fitness.
Stephanie- Veterinary Assistant
Stephanie joined the Capitol Illini Veterinary team in August 2013 as a veterinary assistant. Currently, Stephanie is a service member of the Illinois Army National Guard, which she first became in August 2012. This has given her a new outlook on her future. In Stephanie’s free time, she enjoys fishing, football, baseball, and spending time with family and friends. Stephanie also enjoys spending time with her cats Missy, Sassy, and Luna! In the future, Stephanie plans to pursue a career in the veterinary field and hopes to attend school to become a veterinary technician.
Lauren, Records Keeper & Veterinary Assistant
Lauren began her employment at Capitol Illini in April, 2011. She was hired as a veterinary assistant, but now acts as both records keeper and assistant. She was born and raised in Chatham, graduating from Glenwood in 2005. Working with animals has always been one of Lauren's ideal jobs. She currently lives in Auburn with her boyfriend, her Doberman Gotti and her shepherd mix Tucker. Lauren's affection for animals, her personality and quick humor has made her a wonderful addition to our team.
Heather, Veterinary Assistant
Heather joined the Capitol Illini team in May, 2011. She graduated from Western Illinois University in 2011 with honors of Summa Cum Laude and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Zoology. In her free time she enjoys spending as much time outside as possible with her boyfriend, Kyle and their Vizsla, Hyde. They also enjoy hunting deer and upland birds together. Heather plans to go on to Veterinary School in the future to pursue a DVM with an interest in large animals.
Amy, Veterinary Assistant
Amy became a member of the Capitol Illini team in October 2010 as a veterinary assistant. In the Fall of 2011 she left for school and came back to work with us in September 2012. She enjoys spending time with her husband Dempson, their dog Chevy, a Shih-Tzu, and their cat, Clancy. Amy enjoys working at Capitol Illini because it challenges her to always be learning about pets and because she loves to care for them as well.
Briana, Veterinary Assistant
While pursuing a position as a Medical Assistant through Express Employment Professionals, Briana was offered a position at Capitol Illini and joined the team in April 2012. Briana has since gained a new respect and love for animals. She does not have any inside pets of her own, but has been caring for a feral cat in her neighborhood who she has named Kitty-Kitty. Briana’s family includes her son and boyfriend and hopefully a new cat or dog very soon.
Renee, Records Manager & Patient Care Coordinator
Renee has been a member of the Capitol Illini reception staff since August 2005. She still gets to fill in as receptionist when needed but her main job now is keeping the medical records updated. Her warm personality and excellent customer service skills make her an important part of our team. Renee is the proud mother of three children, two boys and one girl. When their children aren't keeping Renee and her husband busy, the family pets are. Renee and her family have a Lab mix named Jack, a Shetland Sheepdog named Snickers, a cat named Sam. When not working or attending their children's sporting events Renee and her husband enjoy camping.
Alyssia joined the Capitol Illini team as a receptionist in August 2012. She is currently completing her Associates degree in Pre-Vet medicine and eventually would like to transfer to University of Illinois to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Zoology. Alyssia has interned for the past 2 summers at Henson Robinson Zoo, pursuing her interest in exotics. In her spare time, she loves to fish, take care of her bearded dragon Spunkers and spending time outdoors. She enjoys working for Capitol Illini because it gives her a chance to work with pets in a new and rewarding way.
Amanda joined the Capitol Illini team as a receptionist in September 2013. She graduated from Greenville College in May 2013 with her Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Soon, Amanda will be attending Bel Rea Institute in Denver, Colorado to earn veterinarian technician skills to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Although she has no pets of her own, she enjoys helping take care of Simba, our clinic cat. When not working, Amanda can be found spending time with her family and friends.
Ashley, Kennel Assistant
Ashley became a team member at Capitol Illini in March 2013, as a kennel assistant. She enjoys working at our hospital because she loves to watch over the pets and take them for walks. She stays very busy keeping our hospital neat and clean. Ashley also takes great pride in caring for her own dog Tess and her horse Rose.
Hello, my name is Anthony Anderson and I love Capitol Illini! I was born and raised in Springfield and lived here all my life. I have two dogs now but can’t wait to get more. I started at Capitol Illini in June of 2014 and can’t wait to spend many years here. In my spare time I love moves and playing video games.
Amber joined the Capitol Illini team in July 2014. She enjoys working in customer service and interacting with the clients. Amber has no pets of her own at this time, but she would love to have a golden retriever in the near future. In her free time Amber enjoys spending time with her energetic 3yr old son and boyfriend, being outdoors, and watching the Cardinals and Steelers.
